Shiatsu is more than a massage; it is a deeply relaxing experience that works not only with the physical body but also with the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the person. The approach is therefore holistic; the practitioner focuses not only on one area that may feel painful or stiff but on the whole body.
Shiatsu originated in Japan from traditional Chinese medicine. Through the use of different techniques such as finger and palm pressure, stretches, joints manipulation, and fascia work, the aim of a Shiatsu treatment is to balance the energy flow (Ki) of the body and in so doing maintain health and well-being.
